Privacy Policy

This policy explains what personal information Jangdas Motors collects when you use jangdasmotors.co.za or deal with us, why we collect it, who we share it with and how we protect it. We process personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). Our POPIA Policy sets out your rights in more detail.

1. Information we collect

• Contact details: your name, phone number and email address when you send an enquiry, book a test drive or contact us on WhatsApp.
• Vehicle details: the make, model, year, mileage, finance status and photos of a car you want to sell or trade in.
• Finance applications: your identity number, address and residential status, marital status, employment details, income and expenses, the bank you use and your account type, the vehicle and deposit you are interested in, and the supporting documents you upload, such as a copy of your ID, driver’s licence, payslips, bank statements and proof of residence.
• Technical information: your IP address, browser and device type, and how you use the website, collected through cookies and similar technologies.

2. How we use your information

• To answer your enquiries and arrange viewings and test drives.
• To value a vehicle you want to sell or trade in.
• To submit your finance application to banks and credit providers and follow it up with you.
• To complete the sale of a vehicle, including registration and licensing.
• To send you information about vehicles or offers, only where you have asked us to or where the law allows. You can opt out at any time.
• To keep the website secure, understand how it is used and improve it.
• To meet our legal obligations.

3. Finance applications and documents

• Your application and documents are sent securely to our finance team. Documents stored on our website are encrypted and can only be opened through a private, time-limited link.
• We share your application only with the banks and registered credit providers we approach for finance on your behalf. They may carry out credit and identity checks with credit bureaus, which you consent to when you apply.
• Documents uploaded through the website are deleted from the website automatically 90 days after you apply. Copies we hold elsewhere, for example in our email, are kept only as long as needed to finalise your application and any sale, and as long as the law requires.

4. Cookies and browser storage

The website uses cookies and your browser’s local storage to keep it working and to remember things like cars you have saved or chosen to compare. These stay on your device. We may also use analytics tools, such as Google Analytics, to understand how visitors use the website. You can clear or block cookies in your browser settings, although some features may then not work.

5. Who we share information with

We do not sell or rent your personal information. We share it only when needed with:

• banks and credit providers, when you apply for finance;
• service providers who help us run the website and our business, such as our hosting provider, email provider and IT support, who must keep your information confidential and secure;
• the licensing and registration authorities, when we register a vehicle in your name;
• anyone we are required to share it with by law, such as a court or regulator.

If you message us on WhatsApp, your messages are also handled by WhatsApp under its own privacy policy.

6. How we protect your information

The website uses encrypted connections (HTTPS). Finance documents are encrypted when stored and access to personal information is limited to the staff who need it. No system is completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information, and we will notify you and the Information Regulator if your information is compromised, as POPIA requires.

7. How long we keep information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or for as long as the law requires. After that we delete it or remove anything that identifies you.

8. Your rights

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, object to how we use it, and opt out of marketing at any time. Our POPIA Policy explains how to do this and how to complain to the Information Regulator.

9. Children

Our services are meant for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18 without the consent of a parent or guardian.

10. Other websites

The website links to services run by others, such as WhatsApp, Google Maps and Google reviews. We are not responsible for how they handle personal information, so please read their privacy policies.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
