POPIA Policy

Last updated 14 October 2026

Jangdas Motors respects your privacy and processes personal information in line with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA). This policy explains how we apply POPIA and what your rights are. Our Privacy Policy describes in more detail what we collect on the website and why.

1. Who is responsible

Jangdas Motors, 102 Kimberley Road, Robertsham, Johannesburg, is the responsible party for the personal information described here. Our Information Officer is responsible for making sure we comply with POPIA and can be reached at info@jangdasmotors.co.za.

2. What we collect and why

  • Enquiries, test drives and WhatsApp messages: your name, phone number and email address, so that we can reply and arrange what you asked for.
  • Selling or trading in a car: details and photos of your vehicle, so that we can value it.
  • Finance applications: your identity number, contact details, address, marital status, employment, income and expenses, the bank you use and your account type, and supporting documents such as your ID, driver’s licence, payslips, bank statements and proof of residence, so that banks and credit providers can assess your application.
  • Buying a vehicle: the information needed to complete the sale, register the vehicle and meet our legal obligations.
  • Website use: technical information such as your IP address and browser, to keep the website secure and improve it.

We collect information directly from you, and only what we need for these purposes.

3. Lawful basis

We process personal information because you consent to it, because it is needed to take steps you have asked for or to perform a contract with you, because the law requires it, or because it is in our legitimate interest to run and protect our business in a way that does not override your rights. You can withdraw your consent at any time, although we may then be unable to provide the service you asked for.

4. Finance applications

When you apply for finance, you consent to us sharing your application and documents with the banks and registered credit providers we approach on your behalf, and to them carrying out credit and identity checks with credit bureaus. Documents uploaded through our website are encrypted, can only be opened through a private, time-limited link, and are deleted from the website automatically 90 days after you apply. Copies held elsewhere are kept only as long as needed to finalise your application and any sale, and as long as the law requires.

5. Sharing personal information

We do not sell personal information. We share it only with banks and credit providers when you apply for finance, with service providers who help us operate (such as our website host and email provider) under a duty of confidentiality, with licensing and registration authorities when we register a vehicle, and where the law requires it. Where a service provider stores information outside South Africa, we make sure it is protected to a standard similar to POPIA.

6. Direct marketing

We will only send you marketing messages if you have agreed to receive them, or if you are a customer and the messages are about similar vehicles or services. Every message will tell you how to opt out, and you can also ask us to stop at any time.

7. Security

We use encrypted connections on the website, encrypt finance documents when they are stored, and limit access to personal information to the staff who need it. If we believe your personal information has been accessed without authority, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as POPIA requires.

8. Keeping and deleting information

We keep personal information only for as long as we need it for the purpose it was collected, or as long as the law requires. After that we delete or destroy it, or remove anything that identifies you.

9. Your rights

Under POPIA you have the right to:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you and request a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, out of date, incomplete or unlawfully obtained;
  • object to us processing your information, including for direct marketing;
  • withdraw your consent at any time;
  • complain to the Information Regulator.

To make a request, email info@jangdasmotors.co.za. We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act on it.

10. Complaints

If you are unhappy with how we have handled your personal information, please contact us first so that we can try to put it right. You may also complain to the Information Regulator:
